Farryn Melton, CPM, is the Sr. Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer for Bristol-Myers Squibb, a global BioPharma company that discovers, develops and delivers innovative medicines that help patients prevail over serious diseases. The Company’s BioPharma strategy uniquely combines the reach and resources of a major pharma company with the entrepreneurial spirit and agility of a successful biotech company.
As the global Chief Procurement Officer, Ms. Melton is responsible for aligning the global procurement organization’s efforts with company’s overall business strategy to optimize value and transform the business. With 2015 company revenues of over $16B, her team is responsible for managing direct and indirect spend of ~$6.5B. In addition to Global Sourcing, she is responsible for the Outsourcing Center of Excellence organization and Supplier Relationship Management.
Farryn’s 20-plus-year career in procurement includes key leadership and management positions with Fortune 100 companies spanning multiple industries including: Bristol-Myers Squibb, Amgen, Novartis, Pfizer, Warner-Lambert, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Boeing, and Rockwell International. She has led the transformation of several procurement organizations to become “best in class.”
Ms. Melton is a lifetime Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She received the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association 2004 “Rising Star” award, and the National Association of Purchasing Managers’ New Jersey Crystal Award as the 2014 Purchasing Executive of the Year. She was recently named 2016’s Chief Procurement Officer of the Year, by the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC).
Farryn is active in the industry, having served on the board of trustees for the Center for Advanced Purchasing Studies and for the Center for Strategic Supply Leadership. She is a member of the Corporate Executive Board’s Procurement Strategy Council and the Institute for Supply Management. Ms. Melton also chaired The Conference Board Purchasing and Supply Council and was vice chair for the Drug, Chemical and Associate Trade supply management committee and a founding member of the Rx360 healthcare association.
Farryn is a passionate diversity advocate. She leads the Diversity & Inclusion Council for several functions within Bristol-Myers Squibb and sits on the Global D&I Council chaired by the CEO. She is also actively engaged in small business/supplier diversity forums such as the NMSDC and the Women Business Enterprise National Council, where she sits on the executive committee and as national board member (respectively).
Ms. Melton resides in Skillman, N.J. with her husband and two children.
