Q: When and how was your business started? OR If you did not start your business, how and when did you come into ownership of your company?

In November 2004, the firm was founded by its principal, Rona Lum to serve the needs of our clients in a more service oriented and focused manner.  Our mission is to always assure our clients and their employees that their matter is important to us and they are not simply a name on a piece of paper.

Q: How has your company grown and changed since becoming WBENC-Certified? What has been the greatest benefit of certification for you and your company?

WBENC-Certification has enhanced the value of doing business with our law firm.  Many of our existing corporate clients recognize WBENC-Certification and continuing to do business with our firm enhances their diversity spending objectives.  Additionally, WBENC-Certification has presented new and exciting opportunities to work with other WBEs in growing their businesses internationally.

Q: What values have led to and continue to support your business acumen? Share your business philosophy and its influence on your success.

Two philosophies have always guided my approach to business.  The first is to do what you love, love what you do, and people will notice.  Businesses that provide quality service and/ or products are usually staffed by people who have a passion and commitment to the task at hand.  Your existing clients and potential clients will always take notice of passionate commitment and want to do business with your company. Second, actions speak louder than words.  Whenever there is a discrepancy between the spoken word and the action, rely on the action taken by the parties in determining what is the truth of the matter. Plan accordingly; this principle applies in reverse.  Say what you mean and do what you say.

Q: What advice do you have for a new entrepreneur?

Take action!  Nothing will happen if you sit on the sidelines and continue to plan and think about your plan.  There comes a point in time when the rubber must meet the road.  Implement your entrepreneurial dreams!  Do not allow your fear of failure to stop you.  Perfection is overrated.

Q: How did you learn about WBENC-Certification?

I was fortunate to meet Michelle Richards, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Women’s Business Council many years ago.  She encouraged me to get involved with her RPO.  I have been involved with WBENC and Great Lakes WBC for over 15 years.  My law firm became WBENC certified in November 2009.

Q: What guiding words would you like to share with a newly certified WBE who is looking to get involved in the WBENC community?

Get involved now!  Don’t be intimidated by the enormity of the WBENC community.  Remember, we all started from humble beginnings, too.  There is a tremendous opportunity for all WBEs to meet fellow WBEs and corporate representatives. Getting involved with your local RPO is a very good place to start.  Take advantage of the years of knowledge and experience that the WBENC community has to offer by attending events and networking.
